I can relate. My tax returns the past couple of years have been pretty horrifying. If there was an abyss and a spot for jumping off its edge, I'm halfway to the bottom and wondering where the parachute went to ... A call for donations is a sensible endeavor. The host of a few of my lists (SeePhoto, Picture-A-Week and euro-moto) continue to support the cost of operating the server gratis to the users, but all of us who admin lists put out an annual call for donations to help fund the effort. Even a couple of dollars from each subscriber will normally pay the running costs. We simply post a message and tell people to donate directly via PayPal.com to the host owner. I don't know how much comes in on the donation call.
