Subject: Re: bizarre lightroom mystery
I am not sure what you did, Christine. Haven't a lot of time so I
haven't gone through this whole thread.
No problem. I've reimported the DNG files that went into my Lightroom
catalogue, and they are still there. The bummer is all the rendering
information is gone. I still have the jpegs on the desktop, so I can use
them to guide me when I rerender these DNG files. So, I'm fine. No frames
were lost competely.
... last night I started downloading the holiday shots. I got four
cards downloaded. I rendered a few frames and exported them as jpegs to my
desktop just to get the screen-size-overview-look-see like I usually do.
Unless you have the "Add to this catalog" option checked in the Export
dialog, these exported JPEGs are no longer available within Lightroom.
I'm not sure why you do this, however. Why not just import them into
LR and then use the Library or Slide Show tools to get your "screen
size overview look see"? Why export them out of Lightroom into a
different format just to do that?
Actually, I do view the frames large in Lightroom, but exporting them as
jpegs allows me to see them *even larger* after my rendering, and when I
export full sized jpegs, I often enlarge (zoom in) the frame in increments,
which sometimes yields interesting cropping possibilities.
I took a break, came back to Lightroom to have another look-see, and I
couldn't find a lot of the frames I had downloaded in my Lightroom
catalogue--including the frames that I had rendered and exported as jpegs.
I
looked and looked and looked--never found them.
If you're referring to the just recently imported images, to find them
choose one and right-click (control-click on Mac OS X with a one
button mouse) on the image. You can pick the "Show in Folder in
Catalog" to jump there inside LR, or "Show in Finder"/"Show in
Navigator" to jump there in the computer file system outside of
Lightroom.
If you're referring to the "screen-size-overview-look-see" JPEGs,
they're exported out of Lightroom and not in the catalog per my first
comment.
Roger that. Cheers, Christine
