The good news is that the black speck of dust on my K-x focusing screen is no longer there.
Unfortunately, that's because I had to wash it today. I was going to take a photo last night, and the view through my viewfinder was wonky. It turns out that the latch for the focusing screen and shim had come undone and they were rattling around inside my camera. I cleaned things up and put them back together this morning. There are a couple of new scuff marks and it seems like a small hair on the edge of the focusing screen, but things seem to work and focus OK.
