Hi Eric,
If you find you do have trouble manually focussing with just the ground glass screen you can fit a split image focusing screen, these are easy to fit and can be found on Ebay for the cheaper versions or companies like Katz Eyes www.*katzeye*optics.com but their site seems to be down at the moment.
I fitted one to my DL, it makes life much easier.
