I don't think there's as much danger to the cat from the amount of
caffeine it can get out of an unguarded coffee cup as there is to the
other occupants of the house from a cat going on a caffeine jag.
We had a cat who was an avid tea drinker. She would go from person to person
demanding the dregs of their beverages.
She was pretty frisky if we had several guests over.
