Or, rather more likely, the machine has become infected by a virus. Mail spamming some trashy web site is typical of such an infection.
I'd recommend a scan to detect and remove infections (I can't be more specific, because I have very little experience in this area), and an upgrade to a better anti-virus and firewall package.
