It's not so much that I don't really have the money for the repair (I'm
guessing $200), but the fact that it means I'll be without the K20 for a month.

Is it possible to simply disable/disconnect/disengage the top LCD from
the camera? Perhaps it will be cheaper, easier to perform and you can
get your camera back faster. Assuming of course you wouldn't disagree to
use such a camera thereafter.
