Hi Luka,

A friend of mine is experiencing the same behaviour, but it's more complicated than you think and not yet solved. It happened once a few months ago, when its K10d shutter count was around 70,000. Apparently, the shutter died and the camera behaved like yours. After trying what he could do (like extracting the battery, waiting some time, re-inserting the battery and such) he resolved to send the camera to Pentax service, convinced the shutter was broken and had to be replaced. When the camera arrived there... ta-dah! everything was working perfectly like nothing has happened. Then the technician supposed that "a coil somewhere in a motor was not contacting properly" (those were the vague words he reported me) "and then the vibration during transport moved the coil enough for making contact again. It could happen once in a million times, and it could repeat again soon or never again". Those were more comments by the Pentax technician, as reported by my friend. The his K10d worked perfectly for 3-4 months again and then, a few days ago, the problem showed up again. This time he tried shaking the camera, then shaking it more energetically... nothing happens and the shutter is still stuck. So at the end I cannot help you so much, as the problem has not been solved yet. I believe my friend has just shipped the camera agan to Pentax service in Italy.

Cheers,

Dario

Subject: k10d help

it seems my k10d died on me today. but perhaps some of you can help diagnose it.
so, after a normal shot, the mirror just stayed up (the curtain closed).
the camera works normal otherwise (albeit slow) - you can review the
photos and set things in menus

you cannot shoot obviously, and you here the sound from the camera
that sounds a little as a focusing sound from a 16-50 2.8 lens crossed
with the regular sensor cleaning at power-up routine (which also works
normally)

any ideas? i'm guessing that the shutter died (it is well over 50k
anyway), but i'm hoping it could be something with the mirror, that
could be fixed more easily, perhaps by a non-pentax service (we don't
have one in serbia)

thanks for any ideas,
luka
