And that's one of the less expensive ones ... weddings ain't cheap if you've got a social strata to impress.

Ain't cheap even if you don't.

That's one reason the photographer should always insist on being paid in advance. Once the wedding's over and the bills start coming due, the photographer is the easiest to put off paying.
