I suggest trying the same raw file in someone else's known-good Lightroom, and trying someone else's known-good raw file in his copy of LR. If the problem goes away in the other person's LR, and the other person's raw file looks shit in his LR, then he has a problem in his LR and will need to do a setting-by-setting comparison with the other person's.
If there's any other result then it's time to stock up on goats because he'll be doing a lot sacrificing to whatever gods sort out this type of problem.
