Not really. With some practice, one can learn to focus as one pans. Another alternative is continuous autofocus, which causes no shutter lag. It was almost useless on previous Pentax cameras, but it's quite good on the K-7 and will, hopefully, be even better on the K-5.

When shooting in manual focus mode, shutter lag is almost imperceptible with
DSLRs. I don't know if that's true of EVF cameras.
