I suspect the K-5's going to be pretty much the K-7 with a new sensor
and maybe a couple extra fps (the Sony 14.6MP CMOS sensor and the
rumoured 16MP CMOS sensor are both capable of 7+fps and are the likely
candidates for the K-5's sensor). Might even see a 1/250 flash sync if
we also get the extra fps. Aside from that probably incremental
improvements to the video function and LV implementation and hopefully
a flip/twist LCD (I really miss that from the G1 and E-30)
Even with that, I'm expecting it to be a nice upgrade. K-x or better
high ISO, resolution at least as good as the K-7 and all the
improvements to the non-imaging parts the K-7 already got.
Well, Adam, you paint a rosy picture here, which I hope happens :-)
Cheers,
Christine
Heh, I was trying for the minimalist approach. The new sensor is a
given, but I'm not sure which of the two we'll see. Probably the 16MP
one as that's what Nikon and Sony are reportedly both using in their
newer high-end APS-C bodies which should get announced in the next
month or so. Pentax has been improving the Video and Live View
implementations with each update so I expect we'll see that as a given
as well (It'll just be software anyways).
The extra fps and better shutter is a guess, but the capability's
there and it differentiates the K-5 from the slower K-x (and rumoured
K-r) better than the current 0.5fps difference does today. The flash
sync is built on that, all of the 7fps-capable shutters are also
capable of 1250th sync (the Sony's don't get it as their IS
implementation limits the physical sync to 1/200 and they don't give
the sync boost with IS off on the current A450/A550 but do on the
A850/A900). If Pentax has this limitation as well it could explain the
K-7's od lower flash sync (odd given the 1/8000 max shutter speed).
The flip/twist LCD is just me hoping. I love the feature but it's not
available on the bodies I would be interested in.
I've tested the video, and it's fun. I aim to create some practice projects
suited to the video features. Cheers, Christine
