When Pentax changed the screwmount "Super-Multi-Coated"
Takumars to "SMC" Takumars the build quality went down.
I have dealt in many of these lenses and found many
of the "SMC" versions where the focus smoothness
was shit compared to the earlier versions. The K
lenses are the same build quality as the "SMC" Taks
but not as good as the "Super-Multi-Coated" Taks.
I dont know if the changes that occured were due to
material changes or wider tolerances but they simply
are not as smooth feeling as the "Super-Multi-Coated" Taks
were. It is very rare to find "Super-Multi-Coated" Taks
WITHOUT buttery smooth focus, not true of the "SMC" Taks
and the K lenses. Not that the K's are terrible, they
just arent quite as nice.
