I've found Blue Jays to be one of the most difficult birds to photograph here in urbanised Boston--they just never sit still! And here you've not only caught one, there's actually some action! :-D Loved the shot, and seeing it before I read your explanation I didn't notice you'd used flash, which to me is the sign of good flash usage.
