from what I have read the Bigma 50-500 is a much better piece of glass
despite the longer range
They sell for about $1000 US new I think

It is also slightly soft at the long end of the range, but it's a solid
lens, and I don't think I'll part with mine until I can find an
affordable FA600 f/4.
I think Adam's "not too crappy" comment pretty much sums it up as well.
