It is a cryin' shame, though I suppose it's inevitable. I was elated
to discover that my local camera shop (Central Photo in Paducah, KY) had
the K-x in stock when I bought mine from them. Their price was very
competitive with anything I saw on the web, and it was wonderful to be
able to actually hold the camera in my hands before making the
purchase. I've gone back to them for every related purchase, except for
one -- my old Takumar 135mm prime. I really do wish the shop carried at
least a small selection of used/classic glass. But, I had to get mine
on eBay from someone who lived within driving distance.
In any event, I plan to keep supporting the shop as long as they're open
for business. For what it's worth, every time I've been in there, he's
seemed to be doing a fairly brisk business.

Well last remaining full service Camera store that carried Pentax in
my area is gone. I hadn't been Midtown photo in Middletown CT, in a
couple of years. I had to be in the area so I figured I'd stop in and
see what they might have in stock. Their location is now a Cell phone
store, like we need another one of those. Kind of old news really
since they actually shut down in April of 2009. Ah, progress.
