Paul, was any after capture noise reduction applied?
You don't by chance have color versions of these you could post?
Have you printed anything shot at 5000 ?
I just shot a bunch of images, outdoor @ 1600 with my K20 and for the most
part they are useless as prints.

Jamie is f4.5 @ 1/13th, 115mm with the DA* 50-135/
Alyssa is at f2.8, 135mm with the same lens
