It really did have that kind of intense color against a brooding dark
sky. That's why I stopped.

indeed that captures the feeling well -- some kinds of light are amazing in person and rarely captured in a way that excites the same feeling

i've seen aspen trees like that a few times, and i was just south of Telluride sometime in 2007, but not in the fall

the photo shows smaller aspen, but the trail up to Lizard Head peak, starting somewhere quite close to here, takes you through a forest of amazing huge aspen with an understory (in season) of florid shrubs and meadows
