Well, she is driving into a bit pf rain, but decent temperatures
anyway. There is still a fair amount of colour here so she may be in
luck.

Annsan is now Toronto bound on a Greyhound bus. We had a nice dinner at home
after her arrival here in Michigan yesterday and sat up and talked until we
were nodding off. Since today was a school day for Grace, everyone was up
early, and Ann shot some nice pics of Grace in the kitchen. Later, Ann and I
went downtown for Coneys at the century-old Lafayette Coney Island. This
ancient and rather grungy hole in the wall has been featured on food
network, in the NY Times, and various other places. Their stock in trade is
a natural casing vienna hot dog, smothered in a bean-free chili sauce made
from beef hearts and a variety of other animal parts and served in a steamed
bun with onions and mustard. Ali Alhami, their long-time cook, dishes from
behind the grill at a speed that defies description while maintaining a
running banter with customers and servers. Here's Ali after plating a few
Coneys.

Upon leaving, Annsan waved goodby and thanked Ali for watching out for us.
In the confusion of trying to figure out how the parking meters on the
street worked, I had locked the keys in the car with the engine running.
Engaged in a senior moment, I failed to even notice that I was keyless and
the engine was humming. But while we were waiting for our food, a local
homeless type stumbled through the door and told Ali about the running Jeep,
who soon figured out that the vehicle must belong to the really old guy with
the blank look on his face. Fortunately, my Jeep is a Wrangler, so I had
only to unzip the window to get in. That ease of entry, in turn, caused
Annsan some worry since her luggage was in the car. But we survived the
ordeal, downed our dogs, and made it to the bus station with time to spare.
Here's Annsan waving to Ali. Those pics in the window are of governor
Granholm and Joe Biden. Numerous photos of celebrities biting Coneys are on
the walls inside.
