An application I've been using for a couple of years is Absolute
Denoiser Free:

http://absolutedenoiser.free.fr/

It takes a bit of time to work out the interface but it gives excellent
results - certainly better than the noise reduction of CS3.

The author has produced a newer application called NDNoise
(http://ndnoise.free.fr/) which is also free. I haven't got around to
trying this one because I've found Absolute Denoiser so good, but now
that you've brought up the topic, I probably will.

Cheers

Brian
