The Man-portable version of the XM214 is 85lbs with a full ammo load,
which is what they used in the movie (IIRC it was functional but
loaded with blanks). They used special effects because the firing
rate was too high for film, and the sound was slowed down to match
the effects.

Apparently the one in the movie is a mock-up of an experimental
version developed to fire 5.56mm ammunition. It was intended to

I wasn't able to confirm that anywhere on the internet. I mean confirm
the movie used a real XM214.
The XM214 SixPack did weigh 85lb with ammo pack, but it was meant for
vehicle or tripod mount, with no provision for firing hand held.
I did find where Ahnold got the idea for the minigun in T2.
He was in a movie with Jesse Ventura in 1987 called Predator, and Jesse
had the XM214 (or prop gun version???). I actually found that more
convincing since they mounted a fore grip under the barrels which I
think would have made it slightly more controllable. The minigun wasn't
the only thing Ahnold copied from Jesse.
I did turn up a few other interesting "hand-held miniguns" in my research.
My final input on the subject:
