I've managed to get my 1.7x TC to focus with a Tokina 400mm f/5.6 and
a Sigma CAT 400mm f/5.6, but it does need good light. I've had no
issues whatsoever with a 200mm f/4.

For shits and giggles I once mounted the TC on a Sigma CAT 600mm f/8
and did get it to AF; it was very sunny and I chose contrasty
subjects, but I was still impressed.

All this on my K10D, by the way.
