I'm in a quandary. I have a newly acquired Cullmann Titan tripod with
Cullmann CT-50 pro ballhead and its integral quick release system. I also
have a Cullmann Titan monopod that I've been using for about two years with
one of two rapid-action Manfrotto/Bogen heads: The 3229 "flip" head
designed for monopods, and the popular 3265 trigger-action ballhead.

To keep my pro system tripod "all Cullmann," I've decided to switch over to
the Cullmann QR system, but here's the problem: That means I'd have to give
up my beloved Bogen heads on the monopod. Or does it?

Cullmann sells a QR base that can be screwed in to a Bogen QR top plate. In
this way, I could use Cullmann QR plates atop a Bogen head.

In fact, I used a similar technique below the Bogen head: The Cullmann QR
base is integral with the Cullmann monopod, so I've inserted a Cullmann QR
plate, then screwed the Bogen head into the plate.

What I propose to is sandwich the Bogen head between Cullmann quick release
systems below and above.

Alternatively, if Bogen makes a separate QR base, I can anchor it atop my
Cullmann QR ballhead and stay with the Bogen QR system, which I never felt
comfortable with it has a distinct "front" and "back" face, which I get
wrong half the time.

I wouldn't have to go through these gyrations if Cullmann made a clever
rapid-action head like the two Bogens, but they don't. They do make an
affordable ballhead (CT-905, 380 g), but I feel that a monopod deserves a
faster-acting head than a standard ball.

Has anyone else wrestled with this dilemma? What compromise did you reach:

1. Forgo your preferred QR to use the preferred head?
2. Forgo your preferred head to use your preferred plate?
3. Use a sandwich system as I'm proposing to "have it all"?
4. Use Brand A QR + head on one tripod, Brand B on another?
5. Something I haven't thought of?
