I think that is the quick release plate that I've standardized on.

I've found that I prefer a ball head on a monopod and a pan head on a tripod.
When I'm working on a tripod I want to be able to adjust one factor without
messing everything else up.

Some of the heads have a spring loaded mount that'll handle either 1/4-20 or
3/8-16 threads. If you get a 3/8-16 thread pitch mount, you can buy an adapter
for about $1 to use it on the smaller tripod mounts, but if you get one that
only handles 1/4-20 you're SOL.

That one is interesting because it has two knobs, and mine only have one.

Do make sure that you can tell when the camera is well locked in. A few weeks
after getting my K20, my K20 and bigma fell off of my monopod because the ball
head release wasn't properly locked in.
