You are absolutely right, MZ/ZX-5n has blurred viewfinder which is no good
for manual focus. In fact, the entire MZ/ZX series are like that (except the
MZ-S). However, it's the design of the eyepieces that cause the problem, not
the screen. Somehow Pentax managed to convince themselves to employ tiny
uncoated plastic eyepieces which distort and flare. Pentax used to have
excellent viewfinder until the P series (P50, P30 etc). Just beware that
while the MZ-S has multicoated eyepieces, it's viewfinder magnification is
way lower than the Z-1p. Iconically, Z-1p has uncoated plastic eyepiece too
so don't rub it too often. To see the climax of Pentax viewfinder, just pick
up a MX.
