Our streams and rivers don't freeze, so the herons may hang around.

According to my 'Birds of Michigan field guide' the great Blue Heron migrates to southern states - it shows no winter range in Michigan.

Paul,
I assumed they head for warmer climates.
I've never seen one after the snow falls.
And I don't think they are ice fishermen.
Maybe Ann will know.

Thanks Bob. Do Herons normally fly south? I'm no bird

Paul,
Fantastic! A heron in snow.
Somebody's got to remind him to go south.
Excellent catch!

I spotted this guy standing in the Rouge River

then make a second trip, so I picked up my K5, which already
had the DA* 60-250 mounted. I figured he'd be gone, but to
my surprise, he hung around. This is cropped to about 40% of
frame. The A 400/5.6 might have been a better choice,
although 40% of the 60-250 frame might be better than 80% of
the A400 frame, as the latter tends to CA.
