Well, just maybe JCO might not appreciate competition driving up the
price on the lens - maybe he, or some other PDML-er yet to bid,
might be hoping that very few would notice the auction, so that
he/she could get the lens for less than if everyone knows about it
and a rush of "tipped off" bidders work to make the seller happy.
(I don't presume to speak for JCO, by the way.)

Well, to use JCO as an example again (sorry, Sir - <g>) -  If JCO
were the only one to bid on the lens, he might get the lens for less
than if even one or two others also bid on the lens.  No?

No, no such agreement was ever decided upon (nor would it ever last,
either - <g>).  I am merely expressing my frustration at a practice
that I find to be an expensive annoyance for some of us (those who
~work~ at finding Pentax bargains) in order to benefit others (those
who thus are tipped off to bargains-that-become-expensive).
