Checking HERE: http://kmp.bdimitrov.de/lenses/primes/normal/index.html  It 
seems to say that ALL of Pentax's 50mm f/1.7 lenses share an optical formula 
(six elements in five groups).

I think you'll find that the "A" setting makes it much more user-friendly to 
use. I have a couple of them and really like them (but don't use much since I 
got the FA version).
