Follow on from my last post in this thread, I loaded the Olympus Trip 35 yesterday. I haven't used it for a very long time. It's almost exactly the size of the Fuji X100 from all appearances, I want to vet the form factor as a useful adjunct to my SLR system camera.
I'd forgotten the elegance and simplicity of its design: - lovely, clear bright line optical viewfinder, very similar to the Rollei 35S finder. - focus by scale or zone ... the zone markings are relayed into the viewfinder from the top of the lens - No sealing foam on the body ... all the light sealing is done via light trap channels - selenium cell meter (still working perfectly!) requires no battery .. just keep the lens capped when not in use and it will last practically forever. - 40mm f/2.8 lens It has one or two shutter speeds, not sure which, and sets aperture and shutter for you for ambient light. You can effect EV compensation by adjusting film speed ( ASA 25 to 400) and take manual control by setting aperture (it will then use 1/60 second). Simple, elegant, easy to use. The form factor is excellent ... not small and fiddly, not bulky. Simple controls. I'll be shooting with it this week. Makes me really look forward to seeing the Fuji X100 in the flesh! I already know the 20-23 mm focal length on 16x24 format is a favorite of mine ... :-) -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
