As an outsider, sticking his nose in where it's probably not wanted, I
think it would be a shame to rename Waitangi Day which celebrates a
pivotal moment in NZ's history.

Actually, Australia Day is a bit divisive here falling as it does on
26th January.  Many aboriginal people feel (with a fair bit of
justification) that it commemorates the British invasion of their
country.  It's an important day in Australia's history but it's not
inclusive of all Australians.  It would be nice if we had an equivalent
of Waitangi Day.
