Good luck with that. Unfortunately it sounds too much like Dave Brooks'
horse photography business model for me to expect it to work.

I've been exploring a business model of setting up a small studio at a local

resolution photos, and selling disks of higher resolution photos, prints and so

Last month there was a slight disconnect with the organizers who didn't quite
understand what was being offered, and who didn't do a good job of publicizing
it. The sort of glitch that is to be expected, so things weren't exactly
hopping, but the people who did do sessions last month were very happy with
them, and several of them did sessions again last night. My goal for last
night was $100 worth of business, which would bring me up to nearly minimum
wage. I only have cash in hand for $50, but I've got verbal orders for at
least $40 more. As it worked out I did 11 sessions, plus photographed a dance
demonstration between 8 and 12, and looks like I've got money coming in from at
least four of them.
I don't think I've quite got the lighting nailed down, but I got by with the
big white lightning and a reflector on a radio trigger. I tend to prefer
somewhat more dramatic lighting in my photos, but since most of my photos had
women of enough maturity to prefer softer lighting, that was fine. It's very
interesting working in this environment where rather spending a lot of time to
get a perfect shot, I'm trying to get some decent shots fairly quickly.
This certainly doesn't seem like a way to make a comfortable living. Or, pretty
much any living, but it might end up being good publicity to get me other work,
and it certainly made me more money that sitting at home arguing trivialities
on PDML.
