No, the crowd in the car is what did it.  I just held the camera over
my head and snapped.

Seriously, my recollection of the situation is that it ~felt~ more
crowded in the car than the photo makes it appear.  It was the most
crowded subway I've had the pleasure of taking in a while.  (FWIW,
there was a mechanical problem further down the line and I had to wait
about 10 minutes for this one - hence the throng)
