Gee, Paul, maybe there's a generic winder that will have the tripod socket in the center, but if it's really a "clone" (i.e., fairly close in form to the ME II), then there really isn't much room in that center area for a socket (because of the batteries), and the sliding battery tray is not solidly attached to the rest of the winder anyway (making for a poor mounting point there).
