understood -- i actually use a well-made 50-year-old meter stick, and the markings have texture in themselves, so in bright light it's pretty easy to tell which are sharpest; but i also have a meter-long strip of imagesetter film graduated in millimeters i could tape to a yard stick -- might try it when i have a camera which can handle focus correction
