I'm kinda waiting for the same thing. An Oly E-PL2 or a Fuji X100 are
on my list of potential "compact with pro image quality" picks, but
since I really have no immediate or pressing need for either, I won't
buy anything until I can use the raw files in Lightroom.

EVFs for small format cameras are much better than optical viewfinders
in general for this genera of camera. They miss on the absolute
responsiveness of an optical viewfinder and suitability for sequence
shooting, but win on overall usability and on the additional features
and information they can present. The X100 viewfinder looks like an
idea hybrid of both types suitable for a quality fixed lens camera,
the clip-on 'pure' EVF of the E-PL2 is more suitable for an
interchangeable lens camera.

SLR viewfinders are challenged as the format shrinks due to the loss
of light at the illuminating focusing screen and the shorter focal
lengths required for standard FoV values. It becomes harder to focus
due to both shorter focal length lenses and more depth of field as
well as light losses in the viewfinder system. EVFs solve that
problem. When I consider the Olympus E-5 I purchased recently and
consider its price and size, I know that a big chunk of my money went
to the over-size optical viewfinder system in order to provide
sufficient brightness and magnification to support a professional
grade camera. A suitable EVF will solve these problems nicely at a
lower cost and superior performance once they get the responsiveness
and sequence capability ramped up a little bit.
