Here are two examples of the AF540 not firing, when shooting at ISO 200:

One each as it came out of the camera, and after auto-tone in lightroom.
Color me impressed.
I've noticed with the AF540Fgz & the AF200Fg (with the K10D & K20D) that
when they go into sleep mode you have to take extra steps to wake them
up before you can shoot with them.
Easy to do shooting with the Hot-Shoe Adapters & cables - press the
shutter button half way to wake up the camera (even if the camera is not
asleep), then use the D.O.F. preview to wake up the flash.
I don't know how to wake up the AF540 using the "wireless" modes.
Besides, I never could get it to give me a consistent flash exposure,
couldn't set it to manual mode and get it to stay there, so I quit
messing with it and have gone back to using my Vivitars.
Every time my AF540 goes to sleep it reverts to PTTL full power when I
do manage to wake it up. Screw it. I have to have equipment I can count
on to do the same thing every time; set it and forget it.
