About a year and a half ago we gave our oldest (6 at the time) a WS80. Her grandparents were taking her on a grand adventure to Hawaii and we wanted to be sure she could take pictures absolutely anywhere. It went to the beach every day. It went snorkeling. It got left out in the rain at least once. Since then, it's been camping, dropped in a river, dropped on the driveway, kicked across the floor, stepped on and buried in the snow. It goes on hikes, is used to photograph Barbie fashion shows and frequently takes a bath. The only damage - a couple of superficial scratches on the LCD.
