one thing to account for is that a 300mm prime is probably going to be less bulky than a 100-300 zoom of same speed. I have the tokina SD 100-300mm/4 in ka mount and its a dandy, but somewhat heavy and large.

Menaing focusing is run by the camera "screwdriver" only. Also it's not a DG lens - meaning - it's not especially designed for digital cameras. It seems that the "EX" means something like "exellent exterior" design. According to the seller it's razor sharp, whcih is what I want. If I don't buy it I'll probaly get the new DG/HSM version, which is quite expensive.
