one thing to account for is that a 300mm prime is probably
going to be less bulky than a 100-300 zoom of same speed.
I have the tokina SD 100-300mm/4 in ka mount and it’s a dandy,
but somewhat heavy and large.

By studieng Sigma web sites, it seems this lens - unlike the latest version
is NOT HSM Hyper Sonic Motor. Menaing focusing is run by the camera
"screwdriver" only.
Also it's not a DG lens - meaning - it's not especially designed for digital
cameras. It seems that the "EX" means something like "exellent exterior"
design.

According to the seller it's razor sharp, whcih is what I want. If I don't
buy it I'll probaly get the new DG/HSM version, which is quite expensive. Or
I may reconsider the SMC DA f/4 300mm, which is supposed to be superb - and
accordingly expensive for a 4.0 lens.

Jens
