In the mid-19th C we did not care to tell the Sepoy regiments that we'd started greasing rifle cartidges with pork & beef fat. They had to bite these cartridges to release the gunpowder. When they found out they were most displeased, being a regiment of Hindus and Muslims, and this triggered the Indian Mutiny, or 1st War of Independence if you prefer. Let's hope the manufacturers of feather-based plastics know their history. Wouldn't want angry Vegans running wild through the streets of Canada.
