Feeling rather dumb (and verbose), I now realize that there is a
simple name - Body Cap K - for what I tried to describe when I said:

"I would suggest, Steve, trying to find the 'screw-in' (they're
really 'bayonet-in', I guess) body caps.  They're always (as far as
I know) black in color, are fairly substantial in build, made of
stiff plastic), with a knurled edging all the way around for a grip.
Once mounted to a body (or to the 'body flange' of a TC), they will
stay in place, doing their job."

<sheepish grin>

I've accumulated a number of these over time (without ever actually
buying one explicitly), and I use them faithfully on all of my
bodies (most of which do not sit around with lenses mounted to
them).
