Now take an old tooth brush or some like instrument and clean both thread surfaces 
(battery compartment and battery cover)
thoroughly to remove any remaining alkaline salts (vinegar works...) and avoid having 
the battery leak again - you should be OK.
You could also use a very little di-electric grease (also known as "bulb grease") to 
put a thin coating on the threads to help
protect against the oxidized surfaces from bonding.
