I mentioned that last night I tried exposing for the stage lights, then relied 
on the dynamic range of the K-5 to bring the musician out of the murk, here are 
a couple of those shots:

I suspect that the best  non-flash performance would be gained by bracketing 
ISO, use a really low ISO to get a frame with the lights, then a higher one to 
get the musician exposed right, without too much motion blur.

It's also possible that just a little bit of gridded flash as fill would help. 
Not enough to overpower the highlights through the hair, but enough to bring 
out some more details.

The lighting at Moe's was pretty challenging, all red and blue (apart from some 
ungelled tungstens on the lead), but despite my never having shot there before, 
I think I got a few good ones from the night.
