Prompted by the recent thread on the SMC "K" 24/2.8 lens (titled "K24/2.8", appropriately enough), I dug out a review on the optically identical A 24/2.8, as reported in Amateur Photographer for March 3, 1984 (along with the A 35-70/4 and the A 70-210/4).
"Focusing is smooth and quick and viewfinder brightness exceptionally good." "The lens has a pleasing feel and works efficiently, taking up no more space on the front of the camera than a standard 50mm. The 24mm focal length is becoming very popular as a standard wideangle and this lens will certainly deliver the goods." "Central definition was really good, holding all the way through the aperture range, with best results at f/2.8-f/4. Fall-off at the edges was evident opened out, however, though coming in well from f/5.6 onwards." Overall performance - Good Central definition - Very good Edge definition - Good Image contrast - Very good Optical balance - Good Best central definition - f/2.8-f/4 Best overall definition - f/5.6 Best edge definition - f/8 [end] Fred - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
