When we were down that way we always camped at Kodachrome Basin. It's
quite a bit lower down, and quite a bit warmer.
It also has hot showers.....

we are doing a loop leaving in a couple of hours: Durango, Mesa Verde,
Hovenweep, Flagstaff, Arcosanti, something else near Flagstaff,
Canyonlands, back to Denver
i've had two fantastic visits to Island in the Sky, and would love to
hike the Syncline Loop (around the mysterious Upheaval Dome) again with
a camera in hand -- it has lots of microclimates which should be lush
this time of year ...
