I cannot confirm or disprove that Pentax flash control sucks, but I agree with the second have of your message, Bill. My Metz flash is very good. I think I lost less shots to blow out than there are fingers on one my hand. And those were my faults as the flash indicates the suitable range whereas I ignored it and got too close to the subject.
