Paul, around my house we seem to be having a banner year for Trillium - haven't seem so many in over 22 years. They're called Large-Flowered Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum)

The background in your shot is distracting to me and I try to get around that by shooting down low and somewhat up to the flower. I like the nice even lighting.

Subject: PESO - Endangered

Trillium is the Michigan state flower, but it's an endangered species in our state. It's not all that rare, but it is easily disturbed, and I assume there's a lot less of it than there once was. I've always been fond of its delicate shape and fragile nature. Several dozen plants grow along the garden trail next to my house, and I always have to be careful not to step on them. Even raking the leaves away can kill them.
