(I'm coming into this discussion late)

Very close minded way of thinking...

The PDML is an aging & I suspect shrinking group. How many new, and
more importantly, active members do we see join each year?

This is possibly why the idea is so abhorrent to the old skool
PDML'ers. The "old boy" network could become inundated with new, young
upstart, blood. Good Lord! We can't have that now.

I'm not suggesting the PDML should be transplanted to a Flickr group

Phew!
but I do like the idea of those so inclined submitting their work to a
dedicated PDML group. Instead of wading through 20 PESO/GESO posts,
all the PDMLS photos are there.

The pesos/and gesos are on whatever site the photographer who took them prefers them to be -
The PUG works as a site for a once a month dedicated "exhibit" as it were.

How about calling the group that likes flicker and wants to create a group there calling it something else? I'd be outta here too if I had to post or even comment on the flicker site itself. PDML is practically a family - and that's _nice_ . PDML lets me write email
and use links to show my work on _my_ website that has NO ads, and is really
easy to navigate. It isn't a business or a political party- anyone can join in the discussions, you can follow them by threads - there is a tremendous amount of good will and fun here...

Most people are using Lightroom. You can upload a low res shot from
within LR, & post it toany future PDML Flickr Group. Then upload a
higher res version to your own server.

Don't use lightroom - why do double work?

I personally use Flickr searches a lot to find inspiration in other
people images.

I'm a reformed Flickr hater. I understand where people are coming from
when they say they hate using it. I used to say the same thing. Until
I took the time to learn how to use it.

Also, I can directly connect my growth as a photographer to the social
group of local photographers I've met, in person, through Flickr.

Recently I sold my first ever photo because some image researcher for
an educational publication did a Flickr search and one of my tagged
photos fit the bill. Cah ching!

Food for thought.

DS

And I sold a number of photos because of keyword searching that led them to a photo on my smugmug site -
same thing, right?

I'm with the "Christine and Ann" faction here. I don't have a need, a
use, or any interest in PDML (or anything else) on Flickr.

Why don't we just put a copyright on "PDML" and be done with it?
Do you mean trade mark it? Not being a legal entity, I don't think PDML can
own copyrights.

I can't control where the PDML goes, only offer my suggestion. Only the
actions of the group members can control where it goes. But if it goes the
way of living on Flickr, I'll bid the group adieu.
