I think my Flickr PDML e-mail has been grossly misunderstood, so let me clarify some things:
1) I am NOT advocating the the PDML be moved to Flickr; far from it! The list is what it is (warts and all) and it should stay that way until a large majority of users get fed up with it. I don't see that happening, so I expect the PDML to continue in its present form until Doug pulls the plug. I'm fine with that. 2) I am NOT advocating splintering off and forming The Group of Latter Day PDMLers. 3) Larry, John Sessoms and Dave Savage seem to have understood what I'm after:There are a number of PDMLers that are also on Flickr, so why not give them the option to add their photos to the PDML group so anyone (whether they are on Flickr or not) can persue these photos whenever they want to? Would that mean that some of these photos get comments like "great capture!" posted to Flickr instead of the PDML? Possibly. But I'd wager that important comments worthy of discussion would still be made on the PDML. 4) If there are going to be collaborative projects between a few members of the PDML, it would benefit both them and those not participating if discussions took place off list. This could be done over e-mail, but in my experience it is easier within a discussion board of some type, and Flickr provides a decent tool for this, even allowing posting images inline; furthermore, these discussions could be private, meaning only PDML Flickr Group members would see them. Lastly, those who are not participating in these projects, but still have some interest in them, could persue the discussions at their leisure. I created the PDML Flickr group in good faith and was not expecting such a debate. I thought people would either use it or not, and depending on that it would either flourish or die. I wanted it to become a tool for PDMLers, not a bone of contention. Honestly, I don't know what to do with all this right now. So please continue your discussions and let me know if you reach an agreement.
