Great, I'll be interested to hear your impressions as you become more familiar and comfortable with it. First results show promise ... > ... That's one of the reasons why it didn't do much for me. Turn on all the overlays and it's a complicated, fussy view. Turn them off and it's a nice simple framing device, but the X100's EVF is no great shakes for manual focusing. I figured if that was going to be the case, I'd rather have the viewfinder be an option, exchangable with a better quality EVF when needed for precise eye level work. I'm happy to report that the GXR EVF is on par with the Olympus Pen optional and Panasonic Lumix built-in EVFs for quality. > It can't really be compared to a Leica M, despite the reviews, but perhaps > Leica should be thinking about a digital CL along these lines, and about > returning the M10 to the same size as the M3 - the X100 suggests that it can > be done. I agree. For a Leicaphile, the Leica X1 does a better job of maintaing the simplicity and transparency of a Leica M sans the interchangeable lens and rangefinder focusing. I'd love to see Leica go with a CL-D along the lines of the brief I sent them a half dozen years ago now ... An electronically coupled optical rangefinder with manual focus prime lenses ... Stepping back for a moment to reflect: It's delightful that we have so many possibilities for digital cameras now, however. Classic RF system cameras (Leica M), classic SLR derivatives from all the surviving major players and a couple of new faces, medium format hyper expensive machinery, ultra-compact small-sensor fun cameras, mirror-less traditional format system cameras (micro-fourthirds and NEX) and the GXR system notion of a back with interchangeable coupled lens/sensor and other camera expansion module options. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
