Nope. No sign of it yet.

Ok, so here's the deal. I had a school assignment due today; had to be e-mailed to the instructor - submission by email was part of the assignment.

Due before 9:00pm EDT when the lab closes.

I had it complete and started trying to send it through at 4:30pm.

NO JOY!

From Thunderbird I kept getting errors "smtp server is unreachable". Ping the smtp server,

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 48ms, Average = 41ms

Try Yahoo, I couldn't upload the files to attach them; just got a spinner telling me to wait while the files uploaded.

Try Road-Runner Webmail, I couldn't upload them because it would just time out and go to a blank page saying DONE. Nothing else, no way to get back to the email I was composing. (didn't show up in drafts either)

Talk to Road-Runner support. "No known service issues." Usual rigmarole checking account settings, servers and outgoing mail server ...

I think that's about when I sent the test mail to the list to see if I could send email at all. Confirmed the problem was with trying to send attachments. Text only goes through, text with attachments does not.

10MB limit on attachments ... Nope. Largest file is only 892KB and all 4 are only 1.44KB. Heck, they'd all fit on one floppy disk.

Try Campus Cruiser web-mail. Can't get to the Campus Cruiser. Not only will the files not upload, but every 30 seconds or so auto-save wipes out my text.

Copy the files to a thumb drive and go over to school to log into one of the computers on campus. STILL can't get Campus Cruiser email to work. Yahoo & Road-Runner Web-mail still doing the same thing.

Back home and try shutting down EVERYTHING and restarting it (again).

Still NO JOY!

Shut down my desktop and hook up the laptop.

Same ol' same ol'

Call Road-Runner again. Still "No known service issues."

Google download speed & find a test site. Test site says I've got 0.80 mbps down & 0.00 mbps UP?

Call Road-Runner again. This time I tell "support" that I'm looking at the test site RIGHT NOW and it says I'm not getting any upload AT ALL, and less than 1 mbps down.

"I see you're using one of our RCA modems. Are the lights doing anything?"

Message light is off, Cable activity is blinking, Cable Link is solid, PC Link is blinking, Internet is solid.

"How about now? Are the lights doing anything different?"

NO.

"Let me see if I can send a remote reset to your modem. Can you see if you can get new web pages to load?" (Firefox was stalled again trying to upload an attachment to Road-Runner Webmail).

I get several pages to open rather quickly.

Back to Road-Runner Web-mail and NOW the attachments will upload, and I can finally send my assignment.

Assignment mailed 9:01pm EDT!

I can understand my connection at the apartment being screwed, but why would the school's systems do the same thing? I don't think the campus gets their internet from Road-Runner.

And if it's a system wide problem affecting the school as well as my connection at the apartment, why would them doing some sort of remote reset on my modem cure the wider problem?
